Allen Johnson

Mr. Johnson is currently serving as the Superintendent of Asheville City Schools.  Prior to accepting this position, he was the Associate Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction of Asheville City Schools. 

During his educational career, he has served as teacher/counselor, assistant principal, principal of elementary, middle and high school levels.  Mr. Johnson also held the position of Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction in Lee County Schools in Sanford, NC.

He is the past President of North Carolina Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development 2006-07 (state’s professional organization for curriculum/instruction).  In 2006, Mr. Johnson was awarded the North Carolina Outstanding Administrator for Gifted Education.

Mr. Johnson is a native of the eastern North Carolina, Wilson County.  He holds a B.S. in Special Education, a Ma. Ed. In Counseling, an Ed. S. in Educational Administration and currently is completing his Ed. D. in Educational Administration.  He is a member of Kappa Delta Pi and Phi Delta Kappan (Educational Honor societies at East Carolina University).

He has been married to Donna Johnson, high school sweetheart, for 26 years.  Their daughter Laura Johnson is currently a graduate student attending Wake Forest University.  He is an avid college football fan and also enjoys golfing, and walking the trails of the Arboretum.
