Richard Hurley

An engaged, dedicated community member and a Leadership Asheville 2 Alumnus, Richard participates in the efforts of many local organizations.  He is a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award for community service from the United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County.  He is a past President and current member of the Executive Board of the Daniel Boone Council of Boy Scouts of America.  Additionally, he is a past chair and current member of the Board of Trustees of AB Tech Community College, founding Board Member and past President of the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement of WNC, and Master of Ceremonies and Board Member of Folkmoot, USA. 

Richard has also served on the Boards of local organizations including: the American Red Cross, the Community Relations Council, the Family Services Center, Asheville Community Theater, and the Arts Alliance.  He is a past General Campaign Chair and current United Way Board Member.  Additionally, he will serve as the 2006 United Way General Campaign Chair.

A Canton native, Richard is active in the native music scene.  He “Picks and Sings” as an after dinner entertainer, has recorded original material with banjo legend Raymond Fairchild, and plays regularly at the Pisgah View Ranch.  Additionally, he serves as Master of Ceremonies for Shindig on the Green and the Mountain Dance and Folk Festival.
