Clifton Dodson

Mr. Dodson served in the United States Marine Corps from 1966-1968. 

He has held many positions in various school districts throughout North and South Carolina and Georgia.  His titles have included Assistant Principal at Columbia Junior High School in Appling, Georgia, and Principal at North Aiken Elementary School and New Ellenton Junior High School in Aiken, South Carolina, Northside Junior High School in Greenwood, South Carolina, and Northwestern High School in Rock Hill, South Carolina.  His stint as Superintendent began at Saluda School District One in Saluda, South Carolina from 1983-1986.  He continued in this position in Georgetown County School District in Georgetown, South Carolina, and Union County Public Schools in Monroe, NC.  Mr. Dodson is currently the Superintendent of Buncombe County Schools. 

Some of Cliff Dodson’s professional credentials include a place on the Buncombe County Economic Development Board, the Western North Carolina Leadership Board, Buncombe County Vision Task Force Member, and Western North Carolina Leadership Council-American Cancer Society.  In the past he has served on the Board of Directors of United Way, Children First, and the North Carolina School Administrators Association.  He has also served as President of the South Carolina Superintendents Association and as a Consultant of the State of Louisiana Legislature.  In addition to these credentials he has served on several Councils including the State Superintendents Advisory Council, Saluda Development Council, and the Regional Fine Arts Council for South Carolina. 

Mr. Dodson’s honors include the Vietnamese Medal of Gallantry, North Aiken Community Service Award, and Kiwanis Service Award.  Most recently, Mr. Dodson was named as the Western Carolina Superintendent of the Year by the Educational Office Professionals.
