LEAD, an acronym for Learn, Engage, Achieve, and Develop, embodies the goals of our leadership development efforts.
LEAD is set on a backdrop of the mountains of western North Carolina’s unique and lively geography to represent the exact areas that we target – our home, our community, and our future. The LEAD logo is intended to vividly portray the lofty aspirations we have for the future of all our communities. Leadership Asheville operates with the philosophy that there are Seven Pillars of a Healthy Community.
Leadership Program and FellowsCommunities need leadership with vision, energy and skills to set common goals and galvanize people into action. It needs to be well-informed on the community as well as educated by diverse interest groups in order to set the path toward improvement.Leadership is an ongoing process. The Leadership Asheville program acts as a stepping stone to familiarizing each participant with local government, community issues, and service opportunities.
The Leadership Asheville program allows a diverse group of people to interact and find common goals to work toward for the betterment of our community. While examining relational and community leadership theory, participants discover their potential for making a difference in the greater Asheville area. They learn results-oriented leadership, connect with networks of action-oriented people and help to meet the 21st century challenges in their community. Leadership Asheville refers to participants who have completed the Leadership Asheville program as Fellows instead of graduates, because to graduate means to complete or finish. Leadership Asheville’s hope is that Fellows will continue to give back to the community, long after their participation in the Leadership Asheville program. Leadership Asheville provides Fellows with the opportunity to actively give back to the community while offering nonprofit and community organizations the skills and expertise of the Fellows.
