Leadership Asheville exists to enhance community leadership by developing, connecting, and mobilizing citizens throughout the region. This is primarily accomplished by engaging public, private and nonprofit leaders to support their growth and service to our community. These programs wouldn’t be possible without support from local businesses and individuals. Please support Leadership Asheville today, and help us build a better place to work and live!
LA Forum Events
The year 2014 focused new attention on the issue of relations between police and minority communities. While the police-related deaths of Michael Brown in Missouri and Eric Garner in New York made national headlines, police departments across the country began re-examining their own policies and procedures. Among the suggested solutions: hiring more minority officers and equipping patrol personnel with body cameras.
Economic Development & Arts Day
Have you seen the hard hats, forklifts, and massive German brewing tanks currently on display as New Belgium Brewery ramps up construction of their new facility in Asheville? LA 33 has! We spent the day overlooking the construction site while we heard about other current and proposed developments for the River Arts District, spoke with artists who worry about continued gentrification in the district, and had conversations within our own class about both the benefits and the costs of different development plans going forward. Check out our agenda for the day to see who else in the area added their voice to the discussion!
